Meet Karen Sreniawski

My name is Karen, and I’m excited to announce that I am running for re-election to the Orchard Park School District Board of Education! It has been a privilege to serve on the Board for the past three years and I am asking for your support to continue serving our students, schools, and community. There is still much meaningful work to be done.

Why I'm Running

I have been an advocate for children and public education for decades. During my 22year teaching career in Orchard Park, I regularly attended BOE meetings and spoke on behalf of students, parents, and teachers. I was the Vice President of the Orchard Park Teachers’ Association for 13 years and was an active member on several school and district committees. I strongly believe that OP students should receive a strong, comprehensive education that will allow them to be successful lifelong learners.

More About Me

As a community member, I have dedicated over 35 years of service to various Orchard Park organizations. I was an active PTO member, Odyssey of the Mind/Destination Imagination Coach, and Girl Scout leader. I am also a founder and served as a Board Member of the Orchard Park Little Loop Football and Cheerleading Organization. I continually aim to give our youth and community the best opportunities possible.

On a personal level, I have been married to my husband Joe for 46 years. We have three children, all of whom graduated from Orchard Park. We have eight wonderful grandchildren who currently attend Windom Elementary and OPMS. My husband is a substitute bus driver/attendant in our district, our daughter Megan is a teacher at OPMS, and our daughter Jennifer is currently the President of the Orchard Park Board of Education. Meanwhile, our son Kyle is active as a volunteer coach in Orchard Park youth sports. I have always strived to instill in my family the value of public education and public service.

During my tenure on the Board of Education, I participated on the District Facilities Committee and Policy Committee and attended law seminars and trainings hosted by the Erie County School Board Association. I welcomed student voices by supporting the addition of a student ex-officio member to the Board. I voted for the 0% tax levy increase the past two years as well as the decision to remain within the tax levy cap this year. I have also encouraged our district to evaluate our reading program using research and data in order to elevate our students’ experience and academic achievement.

"I am grateful for our hard-working educators and staff. I want to provide them with the support needed to continue to be leaders in the academic arena, while maintaining fiscal responsibility and oversight at the District level. I would be grateful to have your vote as we continue the work to make OPCSD the best place possible for our students and community."
