Meet Ty Romanello

I am the proud parent to three children, one in first grade. My wife and I have lived in Orchard Park for 10 years and couldn’t be happier with the school district and country living. We enjoy taking our children to the local parks, libraries, and ice-cream shops. Our oldest is 6 going on sixteen, and the twins keep us on our toes.

Why I'm Running

As a school board member I will work to make informed decisions driven by feedback and data from all of the stakeholders in our community, while staying fiscally responsible. I grew up in WNY and was enriched by family, teachers, and the education I received. Many of these teachers left an indelible impression on my life, helping mold me into the person I am today. I hope to bring that same passion advocating for students, teachers, and staff, as well as parents of our community. I am honored to have received the endorsement of Orchard Park Teachers Association (OPTA).

More About Me

I grew up in Holland before moving to the city of Buffalo. We had a home near Delaware Park and I was able to spend lots of time playing soccer and golf with friends throughout the Olmsted Parks. I attended Mount St. Joseph’s Academy and Saint Jospeh’s Collegiate Institute. My teachers not only helped establish a strong framework of continued learning through my formative years of education, they also helped foster an environment that allowed my inquisitive nature to flourish with an open mind and keeping the assumption of positive intent. It was this background that allowed my transition to State University of New York at Buffalo for my undergraduate education, as well as Canisius University for my master’s degree, with much less consternation.

Much of my work ethic and drive for continued growth was acquired while working and going to school. I worked for a small electrical company for much of my high school and college career, slowly introducing me to different job opportunities. I also worked in my family’s restaurants for over two decades, doing everything from dishwashing and cleaning, to helping manage, as I continued to progress in my growth as a restauranteur and leader. I learned to be responsible for financials and work with employees and customers from all different backgrounds.

I met my wife, Melissa, while working at the family restaurants. With a goal in mind to settle down with a job more conducive to family life, I went back to school for my master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance. After graduating I joined First Niagara Bank working in credit risk. When First Niagara was bought by Key Bank, I joined the analytics department of M&T Bank. I continued working on my predictive modeling and coding skills, building my own data models for the retail bank. I now manage a reporting and analytics team. One of the things that I appreciate about M&T Bank is that there is a strong sense of giving back to the community and the bank offers many opportunities to volunteer locally.

"I believe a strong well-rounded education and work ethic are large drivers of my success, and without my parents and teachers, I honestly do not believe I would be as fortunate as I am today. I want my children to be able to access the same opportunities and knowledge that I was able to. As a school board member, I hope to be an advocate for my children and the community."
